Hi,

I am new here. I met Kimi24 and learned about this space at a networking event. After reading her posts, looking at her blog, and listening to some of the stories on her website, I realize that I have found someone who can understand me. I came from a dysfunctional home of alcoholic parents. We looked like a fine, successful Christian family from the outside, but the inside was a totally different story. I know that they were wrong for what they did, but I still somehow blame myself. I hope that coming here will help me in some way. My therapist tells me that sharing my experiences in group therapy would be helpful, but I don't want to do group therapy. It is hard enough to tell this stuff to my therapist. Maybe I'm a coward, but this just feels safer to me.

Hi Spring Flower,

I am new here too. I know what you mean by the inside was different from the outside. No one knew what was happening to me inside that house, and I was too afraid to tell anyone. I haven't done therapy yet, but I probably should. Is it hard talking to someone about all of that stuff?

I don't think you are a coward at all, you are braver than me! I can't even get motivated to look for look for a therapist. 😔 I hope I can get enough courage to share my story here. I already feel like I've said too much!

Spring Flower - the fact that you came here says a lot. And you're in therapy, so you're taking the steps. I did group therapy, and it did a lot for me. I know that not every tactic that works for one will work for another, so if group isn't for you, then you find what is, right? There is nothing cowardly about finding what works in your best interest. ❤️‍🩹

I understand masks, and it sounds like your family wore them as well. Family secrets are usually the ones that need to be told in order to heal. I am so glad you are taking steps toward healing and that you've chosen this forum as one of your tools.

Welcome to LumaRise! We are so glad you're here.

@wind-surfer Welcome! You are here, and that is a start! Sharing comes when you're ready. I found that it was easier to reply to others in forums before I start talking. At least I could read about someone that could understand. Sharing these stories can feel daunting, it did for me at first, too. That's okay. Please take your time and take care of yourself first.
